Brew HaHa Recap 2014

The Grand Raggidy Roller Girl All Stars’ chance to secure a spot in the Division II playoffs was on the line during their most recent trip to Milwaukee. The All Stars participated in the 5thannual Midwest Brew Ha Ha event last weekend in Milwaukee along with more than twenty-five teams from around the United States and Canada. Currently ranked 60th in world, the All Stars are hanging on to the final playoff spot and went into this event knowing they must win their games against Fargo, North Dakota and the higher ranked North East Ohio (NEO) team for a chance to move on to division playoffs.

In their first game of the weekend they faced off against the 73rdWFTDA ranked Fargo Moorhead Derby Girls. The first half of the game included multiple lead changes and ended with tie score. After halftime the close game continued until only ten minutes were remaining in the game. That is when the All Stars took advantage of two jammer penalties assessed to Fargo Moorhead and ran away with the lead. The All Stars were victorious with 185-113 win.

The All Stars closed out the weekend with their final matchup against NEO who are ranked 57th in the world. With both teams fielding short rosters and lot of heart, it was evident that they were ready to fight for the win. The All Stars came into this game strong and dominated the higher ranked team with a final score of 205-138.

Coming home with two big wins will better the All Stars odds of nabbing a spot in the Division II playoffs, however final rankings for the playoffs do not come out until the beginning of July! Keep your fingers crossed that the girls efforts this past weekend pay off with an invitation to the Division II WFTDA tournament!

You can catch the All Stars next game on August 2nd in Ann Arbor against the Ann Arbor Derby Dimes. In the meantime, keep a look out for your favorite Grand Raggidy Roller Girlsaround town during local events and festivals.
