The screeching of the skates, the referees’ whistles, the hits, the bruises, the high-fives...it’s roller derby and it’s back! The 2019 season is here, so get ready, get the family, get your friends and join Grand Raggidy Roller Derby as they bust open their fifteenth season by hosting Royal City Roller Derby in one of the most highly anticipated double headers EVER!
Royal City Roller Derby is making the trek from Guelph, Ontario to challenge Grand Raggidy on their home track at Griff’s Georgetown. They are bringing two teams; the Brute Leggers and the Rum Rollers. The Brute Leggers will compete against the Grand Raggidy All Stars in the first game. The Rum Rollers will compete against the Grand Raggidy Attack in the final game of the evening.
Attack last played the Rum Rollers in April of 2018 and while they refused to give up, the Rollers dominated and took the win at 301-84. Attack recovered from the loss, worked hard and later that year took home the Rumble Cup from the Mitten Kitten Mash-Up tournament. Both teams want this win and it will be exciting to see who prevails in this 2019 rematch.
The All Stars last played the Brute Leggers at the WFTDA Continental Cup Championship in August of 2018. Going into that game, the Leggers were 53rd in the WFTDA ranking system and the All Stars were 64th. It was an intense and tough fight, but the penalty-heavy Leggers were unable to pull it together and were ultimately defeated with a final score of 239-166. Grand Raggidy has since climbed in rankings and is currently at 59, while Royal City remains at 53. As they nip at the Leggers’ heals, they know this game is critical for them. Will they once again prove their dominance on the track or will the Brute Leggers arrive with a revenge-hunger so great that they devour Grand Raggidy and deny them the repeat win?
Get your tickets and get ready for an exciting night of competitive roller derby on March 23rd! Doors open at 5:00pm and the action begins at 5:30pm at Griff’s Georgetown!
